SPS30 is designed to detect and measure PM1.0, PM2.5, PM4, and PM10 particles in the air. Vape from e-cigarettes produces aerosol particles that are generally within the PM1.0 to PM2.5 range. Therefore, the Sensirion SPS30 is capable of detecting these particles when they are in the air. If someone vaped in a room and the visible smoke has dissipated, there is a possibility that the sensor can still pick up the particles depending on ventilation, concentration, sensor placement. However, the sensitivity will decrease as time goes on and the particles disperse or settle. We suggest to run tests to characterize the dynamics and environment conditions for this specific use case.

Hi, SPS30 and SEN50 share the same technology and performance for the measurement of Particulate Matter concentration. SPS30 has the MCERTS certification and presents a small and compact form factor. SEN50 has the same interface and the same form factor as the SEN5x family. Best Regards

Anyway, if you talk about having two SHT30 we assume you are talking about the SHT31 SmartGadget ->> sensirion.com/products/catalog/SHT31-Smart-Gadget/ Sensor to sensor deviation in the mentioned range are caused by sensor contamination. The substance or substances contaminating the senor element lead to a shift in the sensor output. Contaminants are often VOCs like Ethanol, Methanol, Aceton or Isopropanol. Cleaning detergents also often contain critical substances. If you, as expected, are in possession of SHT31 SmartGadget the sensor showing higher values need to be considered lost as there is no way to recover the sensor. Hi Raymond, thanks for your inquiry. Yes, the sensor can be used outdoors. The sensor is specified for the use in a temperature range of -10°C to 60°C and relative humidity range of 0% to 95% in a non-condensing environment. Below -10°C it might happen that the speed of the integrated fan is reduced or when power cycling the sensor the fan does not start spinning at all. The sensor is a component which needs to be integrated in at least some kind of housing which protects the sensor against splash water and direct rain. Our customers and also we are operating several sensors outdoors and around the globe. All the sensors have at least an additional enclosure to protect the sensor against water. So far there haven’t been any issues regarding the sensor performance itself. Things like insects as spiders who are spinning a net in front of the sensor need to be considered by the mechanical design of the housing. Hi Jose, thank you for your interest. First you should check if the error is really relevant for you. This can be easily done by dispensing liquid on a scale and measuring the time. Our sensor viewer software has a totalizer function which outputs the metered volume. Together with the measured time and the weight of the liquid (correct for the density!) you can see how far the sensor is away from what you measured. From this you can see if a compensation is really necessary and if it is: you can extract the compensation factor. Hi Oscar, the sensor measures the PM concentration locally, at the location where it is installed. Whether the measurement is representative for the whole room, depends on the location and the distribution of the aerosol in the room. The actual air flow through the sensor is very small (<1 l/min) compared to a typical room’s volume. Your Sensirion Team
